Keyboard compatibility

Sun Apr 18, 2021 12:01 pm

I have read on here that wireless keyboard/mouse with number pads do not work with the Pi4. Is this issue with all manufactures or a select few?

Numeric keypads make no difference.

Dongle or bluetooth? Some dongles won't work close to the Pi so you put them on a USB extension lead and they work excellently.

It would be a single Dongle for both Keyboard and mouse.

I have tried many different keyboards with Pi's, and they have all worked fine. That being said, there are a few rare exceptions. It's likely as long as it is a major brand, your keyboard will work. Here are the ones tested to work with the pi:

If it isn't on the list, or said elsewhere to be compatible, you run the risk of it not working, but you will likely be fine as long as it's a normal keyboard.

Note:
I'm typing this on a Logitech mouse+keyboard wireless combo with one dongle.

Good Luck!

BTW I received my Pi4 , wireless keyboard and mouse today and they are working fine. I did need to slow the mouse down as it was way too sensitive for my taste.

The Pi has moved on very fast, generally any information more than 6 months old needs to be double checked, any problems more than 6 months old are highly unlikely to still be a problem.

I don't see anything there that singles out having number pads as the reason for devices not working.

I suppose I should have worded it in a different way for that link. Its the wireless part that's the issue. I have however read in other places about the keypad not always functioning correctly. I am not going to try and figure out where lol. Mine works so it's now a mute issue for me.

I do like a silent issue.

A USB wireless keyboard and mouse do work.

As of April 25th, 2021 a wireless logitech mouse with a USB dongle works perfectly on a pi400. Number pad works like it should and little white keyboard also works at the same time. You could be like that horrible scene on NCIS where Abby and Mcgee are both typing away on a keyboard at the same time. But you can each have your own here.

Prepare for a total geek cringe on this one if you havent seen it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msX4oAXpvUE
