Obstacle avoidance with OpenCV

Fri Jun 05, 2020 4:50 pm

Is there any good videos to learn obstacle avoidance with OpenCV.
I have a robot and I have an obstacle in front of it and I want to find some solutions/methods to avoid it with ultrasonic sensors and camera.
I'm a beginner...
Thanks

NickAsk,
Have you made any progress with this ?
I am just starting a similar journey so looking to leverage up any other peoples effort.
For a video I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk6CEt8rsdA (https://github.com/BigFace83/BFRMR1 )
which looked about right for a place to start.
Unfortunately the code is old, using Python 2.7, Open CV 2.4
Also I found the code hard to follow without a sense of the steps being undertaken.

Then I stumbled on Adrian Rosebrock's articles at https://www.pyimagesearch.com/
especially https://www.pyimagesearch.com/2015/03/3 ... nd-python/
and https://www.pyimagesearch.com/2015/06/0 ... nd-opencv/
Here the method ie 'Background subtraction' is explained.

Now I just have to find a similar discussion based on 'obstacle detection'

Paul McWhorter has an amazing series of videos on using Python and OpenCV from simple baby steps to object tracking and more.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... ERFFPkOuP4_

He uses the Nvidia Jetson Nano board but a lot of that will work on Pi 4 all be it more slowly.
Memory in C++ is a leaky abstraction .

Wow thanks Heater. It does look like it has the right premise (ie not needing a Phd to start)
It will take a while to get through but is a very promising lead.
