Raspbian and RetroPie on same SD card?

Fri Nov 09, 2018 10:01 am

Hi Guys,

I'm going to build an retro Arcade maschine together with my boy, and I'm looking very much forward to it :)

Is it possible to have both Raspbian and RetroPie on the same SD card, and make it possible to choose from a boot menu? If yes what do I need to buy?

When we are not playing, the Arcade should act like a "Family Info Board" with calendars and stuff like that. Any recommendations here regarding use of services / software etc.?

Retropie is an application. it can be installed on Raspbian, or comes pre-installed as a complete image.

Raspbian with the RetroArch application will probably handle most tasks with a gui, and MAME has several gui add-on options that can take a bit to get right (probably why retro-pi is popular with some users).

As others have already stated,
Raspbian will likely be easier to troubleshoot if something goes wrong, but may not be as memory efficient as a single application OS. ;-)

Cheers,
~J~
