I suggest you acquaint yourself with the basic principles of port forwarding and the specifics of how to accomplish it on your particular model of router. Neither is specific to using a RPi. Any decent search engine will return many web pages with the required information on both port forwarding and incorporating password handling in a web page. Your router manual should cover how to configure port forwarding on it.

Have you tried port forwarding 8081 to the RPi in addition to 8080?

From which it appears that my answer above namely "I suggest you acquaint yourself with the basic principles of port forwarding " was pertinent.

AIUI your code contained the LAN address instead of the WAN address. You knew how to do port forwarding but did not understand how port forwarding was only a part of the whole private LAN, public internet, NAT router configuration.

I will agree... my question would be since my pi is running on the same local ip address why would I need to use the WAN address? hypothetically shouldn't I be able to point it in the direction of the port? like addressing a gif image in your html in the same file as your code? :?:
