At the start I'm flying about 55 knots, you can hear it quieten as I pull back just before the 45 downline - you can see the air speed indicator (top left) reducing back to around 40/45 knots - normal flying speed. Entry in to the humpty bump - straight up and over the top - is at about 110 knots - pretty fast for a glider. Normal flying / thermalling is pretty quiet but even doing this you can still hold a conversation without having to raise your voice - the mic's are probably a bit overly sensitive.

The creaking is mainly the straps straining as they keep the lump in the front (me) in my seat.

The G meter is bottom right - you can see about 4G on the entry & exit of the humtpy - and hear the mandatory grunting that it causes!

Got tonnes and tonnes of LEGO and like making steam railways and fairground rides. Done a lovely detailed shire horse too - I would love to ride one of those big heavy horses.

Also do games for the ZX Spectrum (it's now 30 years old folks). Most of that is done on a PC with a cross-compiler and emulators though as doing it on the actual machine is a lot of hassle I can do without.

Dunno about floating in bathtubs - I can usually only fit in half a leg at a time, never mind the rest of me. I don't think I've been able to float in a tub since I was about 5. Still, I do usually try to bob about in the Med. for at least a week a year - you know, whether ah need it or no'. So just got back from Paleokastritsa. Still dealing with the blisters from hiking into the hills, but no sea-urchins got me this time.

Having met you (I have seldom seen Eben have to crane his head backwards to talk to someone), I am not surprised about the bath comment.

We were just on the NE coast of Corfu a couple of weeks ago. Bliss; we hired a boat and just pootled up and down the coast most days. And I have wonderful blackmail pictures of Eben swimming in a deserted cove on a day when he forgot to bring his trunks with him.

What ain't I interested in would be a better question.
But here goes, some of my many diversions.

Words, language, computational linguistics, see link to my employer below.

Walking, hillwalking, the English countryside, part of having grown up in Lark Rise to Candleford(The real one not the BBC fake!) country.

Cidermaking. http://a-ciderist-writes.blogspot.co.uk/ http://twitpic.com/705bf5

Sadly it's not something I can take up every weekend as I'd like to!

What you can't see is about four feet to my right a stunning Russian woman having her photo taken against the same backdrop by her mother. I'd swap a plate of olives for that picture in a heartbeat...

Anyway, in Greece it's always a good idea to try the whites and ros├ęs as they're far more plonky than you might be used to. The reds seem always too sharp or come out warm. Unless it's a Mavrodaphne, which is practically sherry anyway. And you can get that in ASDA. Mmm. You should give it a try.

One thing we discovered in Greece (Parga) was that the cheapest wines (they come in a plastic bottle, that resembles a BBQ lighter fluid bottle) actually were great stuff...

The more expensive wines in nice looking bottles that we tried were actually quite horrible!

Turns out the restaurants house wines are also these cheapo wines, so we saved quite a bit of cash on that trip!!

Cheers, Scott.

so I can turn big lumps of metal into small bits of metal

started having a family at 40 and found that is where most of the time and the money goes!!

Cool... I last weekend was given (for my 30th) this:

A fairly historic metalwork lathe... made by Drummond Brothers in Guildford, dates somewhere between 1908 and 1943!

I've started restoring it, and looking for bits.... and am planning on making it a small CNC machine with it! Maybe even using the Raspberry Pi if I can figure out hoe to convert G and M codes into pulses VIA the GPIO pins... probably a couple of years in the making...

Like yourself, I too have just started a family, so spare time is vastly limited these days!

Cheers, Scott

Not much time these days but back in the day did lots of amateur film making. Mainly involving aliens, guns, explosions, cars and tins of plum tomatoes.

My most famous projects included "GUTS - Government Undercover Tactical Squad", "Meet The Locals" and "Hollow Point" (http://youtu.be/8GE3YE-7wzE).

Recently I dabbled in stop motion animation :

Well, I have done a little gliding in the past and would like to get back into it (nice to see other glider people on here :-). Am into amateur radio (anyone doing sat tracking or SDR on the RPi?). And of course I am into Linux!

As with others I have a young son, and so when I'm at home (I work at sea), I'm generally quite busy helping my wife look after him. My Pi is on order, and I will *finally* see it when I get home in late October.

Right now I'm somewhere between Nuuk (Greenland) and Woods Hole (US)..

Wow lots of pilots and amateur machinists! Very cool. I have a South Bend 13" with quick change gearbox and power everything and a South Bend 9" with slow change gears and power nothing (except leadscrew, of course)... unfortunately both gathering dust in my mom's garage while I'm in college. I also have about 37 hours towards my private pilot's license in a short-coupled taildragger. That's also on hold for now.

@G7KES: Gotta love that current through Woods Hole :D!!

My interests are eclectic, to say the least.

Martials arts, rugby, craft beer, books, sailing, mountain biking, hill walking, art, sustainable living, slow cooking.

Was fiddling about with Arduino (Is that a swearword on here?) but its now gathering dust in the corner of the shed as my new Pi has just arrived.

My hobbies are mostly old telephones (50's onwards mostly), quality vacuum cleaners (with the odd Hoover thrown in), pretty much anything electromechanical, and computers, at least, windows-operated computers, cos I've not been brave enough to use Linux properly...

Of course, beer is an important part of my life too, proper stuff though, like Hobgoblin, Bombardier, and other similar beers from that speciality beers shelf at your local british supermarkets, so much nicer than the cheap stuff... :D

Hmm, what do I do with my time?
Well, I guess you could answer internet, torrented TV series, reading (mostly fantasy), gaming, programming, alcohol, drugs and studying. Pretty much in that order. I'm interested in psychology and medicine and read a bit about that on my spare time, and I study electronics (which I also love, but which can't really be considered spare time as it's actually related to my studies). I love fiddling about with small programming projects, but I never actually get to the finished product. Usually I'll just leave it at a proof of concept. Once I had a good idea I'd never heard about before, and considered writing it up as a patent or an article but I never got past the proof of concept. Some of these activities I do with friends, and some are better suited for when you're alone.

Apart from all the PC geekyness, including the R-Pi - I enjoy comics, going to the gym and indoor climbing. Not much, but the geek stuff keeps me busy enough!

Nice to see lots of homebrewers here :) I still manage to fit ale and cider into the schedule - haven't got the space or time for whole-grain brewing  but the kits are pretty good these days. Favourites at the moment are Black Rock dry lager and cider. Add some pear juice to the cider and it GOES DOWN A TREAT!

I used to ride a lot - my Moto Guzzi LeMans I is quietly rotting away while I taxi the kids around on weekends - don't worry, it only needs cosmetic work, the insides are in great shape. Hoping to fund a restoration next year when my dear departed aunt's estate is settled - bless her - seriously, I'm very grateful to her.

Currently getting some filming work from a local school - they've got a strong dance/drama group and like to have their performances recorded, so filming and editing song-and-dance shows in high-def is fun.

My son (14) plays soccer, so I take photos of the games for the club - the local paper likes action shots in the sports pages.

My little girl (10) takes dance lessons and circus lessons, so there's lots of good photography to be had there.

Oh, I like to cook, too - I do most of the cooking at home and I've got a new job as camp cook for a re-enactment group at the Abbey Tournament - http://abbeytournament.com/

cheers

my hobby, I really like this movies and decided I would read more Crap Books. Nowadays spend most of my time maintaining the house and cars, and looking after the children. Anyone who says that children won't change their lifestyle is deluded, I do hardly any of the stuff above any more.

I once took part in a Cold-War re-enactment night photoshoot in a museum... It was a surreal occasion and I found it quite strange to begin with (I'd never modelled before!) but tuned out to be a lot of fun! (I'm second from right in the blue):
