Passion about games is still inside me and like to play anytime and my all time greatest game is Need For Speed Unwanted its superb racing game which is fully loaded with long and tuff missions.
Re: What are your Other Hobbies / Interests??
I suppose now I've had my Raspberry Pi a full week and this is my 10th post
I suppose I should introduce myself.
I love Astronomy, Football (Glentoran FC, Norn Iron), Online Poker and I suppose like most on this forum I'm a gadget freak, I listen to a lot of podcasts and I love learning.
I'd like to put my Pi to good use, either through programming or in some way with one of my hobbies. I own a small 4" telescope that I can control with my PC, the Pi would be a great project to incorporate but I think I need to learn to program before I try anything else.
Beer, football and online poker sometimes get mixed together, not always a good combination.
Has anyone else mentioned beer

I Love Photography a lot.
Re: What are your Other Hobbies / Interests??
Aircraft, motorcycles, guns, computers, food, travel, reading in no particular order.
Aircraft are too expensive for me to fly anymore, but I still get an occasional chance to be around and in military air. I have a Kawasaki Nomad 1600 that has been changed to suit me and I average about 12,000 to 15,000 miles a year partly because I do most of my travel on it. When I travel I use the bike and pull a Timeout camper trailer and go all over the country. My longest was 8,000 miles. I've been shooting since I was 4 (that's sixty years ago) and can shoot from my deck at home. I like trying new foods. Rice bug soup anyone? I used to be an IT Manager and have been playing with computers since I bought one of Clive Sinclair's early machines. I have everything from a Samsung tablet to an ASUS gaming notebook and some home builts in between.
I sure wish that my Pi would get here!

Re: What are your Other Hobbies / Interests??
Meet Speckled Jim and Rho.

They are my pet axolotls, they are a type of salamander but they are "neotenic" meaning (under normal conditions) they spend their entire lives and breed as juveniles. Imagine a type of frog or toad that never became a frog or toad but did it's entire life cycle as a tadpole. That's what these weird creatures do, living out their entire lives in the water, although under certain circumstances they can "morph" into a really handsome land dwelling salamander.
They are also able to regenerate almost any part of their body. Almost any injury to limb or organ, including eyes and brain, if it does not kill the animal outright then it can regrow the lost or damaged body parts. For this reason they are used by scientists researching new types of regenerative medicine. In fact, it's possible this scientific interest is saving the species from extinction because their natural habitat Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco in central Mexico have been reduced from once vast lakes to little more than a canal and it's estimated there are only several hundred left in the wild.
They are able to "breathe" through the frilly gills around their necks and absorb oxygen from the water through their skin but can also breathe air as they are equipped with lungs as well.
They use a keen sense of smell to hunt out food, mainly aquatic invertebrates. To catch them they make a vacuum in their mouth and throat, then open up their mouth and suck up everything in the area around their heads. The best diet we can provide them with in captivity is earth worms!

Looking forward to learning about this little device thats making such good noise about. Havent got one yet, just reading lots about it so as not to break it when i finally get one in my hands..

Re: What are your Other Hobbies / Interests??
My hobbies are:
Installing satellite tv for friends (all sorts of different satellites/dish sizes for broadcasts from all over Europe)
Just given up riding motorbikes after 30 odd years ( a real "in the blood" passion, very hard to quit, despite the injuries)
Watching proper motorcycle road racing (Isle of Man TT, North West 200, Ulster Grand Prix)
Drinking ever decreasing amounts of beer for the same effect (nice one, that)
Walking the dogs on empty Irish beaches
Not watching tv (if I can help it, I can do far more while I listen to the radio!)
Loud rock music (Led Zep, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd......)
A quiet life, hassle free (if anyone discovers how to achieve this, please let me know)
and recently, computers, just done my first Vista/Linux dual boot laptop, must say I am impressed by Linux (Mint, very fast). Now to learn how to use it.......I may even buy a Raspberry Pi.

Let's see...
* Railways; was into N-gauge modelling for a bit but didn't have the cash, patience or hand-eye coordination to get very far.
* Various weird and wonderful freeware games, playing and creating custom content alike. (If there's any Dwarf Fortress players in here, I'm the guy who created the Black Powder Firearms mod.)
* Writing fiction, unpublished and probably not very good.
* Drinking Real Ale.

Re: What are your Other Hobbies / Interests??
With a technical job and several technical hobbies, I have to have something non-technical to do occasionally to keep my sanity.
The best thing is hiking and camping, but I really only get to do that a few times a year.
I am a home-brewer and have been making my own beer for over five years.
But my primary passion has always been martial arts.
I am now a third degree back belt and certified instructor in WTF Taekwondo.
Teaching is it's own reward. It always thrills me to see the look on a six year old's face when he learns (by doing) that, yes, he can break a board.

That is me in the October test for our school. A video can be seen here:

I'm also a HAM (KJ4CEX) but I am not very active. I only use 2M and have it for emergency use. I volunteer for Amateur Radio Emergency Services for my state.
There are quite a few amateurs getting involved with the RasPi.

Rock climbing, mainly:

which means that Cambridge, despite being a brilliant place for everything else, is a bit of a rubbish place to live if you like this kind of thing. Also motorcycle racing (now retired, mainly as I stopped bouncing so well), tea drinking, and advanced procrastination.

Do you know what's crazy... on the nightclimbers website you posted above, it gives a thank-you to a guy called Alex Cowan... I know him!! We went to to school together! He ended up at Cambridge Uni, I got Rugby College (hey-ho)....nr. wrote:Tried that. Got away with a caution. Alex had told me about this famed book years ago, but I didn't know it had been scanned in!
He took great pleasure in telling me a story about two flag poles in one of the Cambridge colleges...
One morning the college porters noticed a child's Potty on top of one of these flag poles.. By the afternoon, they started to erect a scaffold tower up the pole, to remove the potty. The scaffold was nearly complete by the end of the day, so they went home to complete the task in the morning. Upon return, the potty was now on top of the other flagpole! Genius!
I recall other stories of push-bikes, and a Morris Minor appearing on rooftops too...
Cheers, Scott

Re: What are your Other Hobbies / Interests??
Probably worth mentioning that the book in question is now back in print, so I'm not sure whether the note on copyright in the link I gave earlier is still valid. Anyway - if you want a copy of the book, it's published by Oleander Press, and also occasionally turns up as a free (or at least very cheap) Kindle download if you do things electronically.
Highly recommended.

Reading articles and books is one of the best hobby. I would suggest you to read about Japanese culture because i am currently reading about the Kabuki theatre and kabuki history in the mythology in which they use japanese noh, hannya, wooden and some other sorts of ancient mask . It is an ancient theatre in which the actors perform different plays wearing kabuki masks and samurai outfit. Do read about it and let me know.
