Howdy do peeps!
Anyone else here practice a martial art or thinking about trying one?
I've just recently tried out kickboxing for 3 months before xmas, but found it a bit hard going and repetetive (but theraputic )
Then I had a short stint at Ju-Jitsu, which I would have loved to get good at, but found it very technical and hard to learn. Plus I got a couple of injuries that were close to putting me off work for a week, which is a huge no-no.
Finally, I had a go at Krav Maga at my local leisure centre, and found it easier to learn, fun and practical, so I think I've found one that suits!
For anyone wondering about trying one, go for it! I'm badly out of shape, overweight, and have no co-ordination at all, but Krav is getting me in shape, and I feel more confident now that I'm getting into it.
I was worried at first that a martial arts class would be the stereotypical skinheads in bandannas, flaming torches, big gong, broken glass gloves....
What I found was that the people practicing were cool, everyday people who were in it as much for a laugh as to learn. The instructors I've trained with have all been really helpful and have taken their time to help a newbie like me
It's also worth considering for people here who have kids to try them in an art, it encourages fitness, working towards a goal, gives them self defense skills, and self discipline.
Which ones do you guys do? What belt/grade are you up to? And if you don't do one but are interested, throw some questions about, if I can't answer them, then maybe someone else can
