Anyone upgraded yet? Any ups? Any downs?

a. I don't think Ubuntu supports ARMv6 processors on anything past somewhere in Vers. 11 (might even be earlier for the cutoff).

b. The default desktop on Ubuntu is way to heavyweight for a Pi to run well.

Well done, sir!
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

no ubuntu doesn't run, nothing has changed .
If canonical has a change of heart, and starts supporting the PI it would happen with a lot of fanfare, but not a peep!
But an alternative has been released, in the form of Bodhi Linux, Its a Linux distro derived from Ubuntu, but using the lightweight Enlightenment Desktop, and it has been ported successfully to the PI. Also, it uses the PI's hard-float capabilities for performance.

Clearly my question has misled people, for which I now apologise! As this is the off topic forum, I intended the question to be aimed at anywhere people have upgraded to the recent release of Ubuntu (any hardware). I thought the OT forum was appropriate. Please delete if out of context, I'll move along.

Okay, I was indeed led astray by the subject line. So I changed the subject line for you, to match closer the question you were asking.

Hi Bob, I know this won't help as I'm still using 10.04. For which support ends this month and I have no plans to move to Unity. So, now I'm looking at what to install next. It'll probably be some form of Mint, maybe LMDE.

BTW, I didn't think your original subject line was misleading, 'Off Topic' and 'Ubuntu13.04' couldn't be Pi related.

Hmm, there are still threads appearing refering to running Ubuntu on the Raspi, so a more accurate thread title (as we have now) would prevent mistakes.

Nothing wrong with Unity btw, I've been using it since it came out and get on fine with it. Not tried the latest 13.04 yet though, but apparently its even better.

I like the Ubuntu approach to simplifying things because it makes Linux accessible to none technophiles... Yet to try the new version though. What's different?

Yep, I hold my hands up to being vague. Thanks to mahjongg for clarifying the title, and apologies to w.h. heydt for kicking back!

I dont have an issue with Unity, I'm currently running 12.10 on it. But I seem to remember having to re-install when I did an upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 because I had issues with some services that I couldn't resolve.

@morphy_richards - yeah, I need my main OS must *just work* so the family can get on with it. I'm not sure what's different other than a few changes to unity, upstart and libra office. I just like new when new is available!

There's a review of 13.04 on the Register which goes over most of the new features.

I've installed it on my laptop, seems ... Good.
Except it has a big Amazon button on the default Unity sidebar that just takes you to the Amazon website.

Delete it? Canonical have an arrangement with Amazon to try and recoup the dev costs. But all that added Amazon stuff can be disabled easily.

Yep. I did.

Fair play to Canonical, the Ubuntu "1" (cloud drive thingy) looks like it's going to be very useful (Haven't used it yet but still ...)
So far all I have done with it really is start to fill in a form in LibreOffice and play a bit of Oolite. Okay, quite a lot of Oolite.
I cant believe I didn't know this existed until I started browsing the "software center" on Ubuntu (which is a really user friendly visual apt-get package manager thingy)

(Back to Oolite / Elite : I can actually dock now ! I never managed to do that on BBC Elite back in the 90's. Anyway, I digress)

It seems really nice. Very smooth. Not much visual or massively obvious difference to 12.04 though which I'm installing on a few machines here at work.

I'm really interested in the upcoming revision which promises to centralise my security to various online accounts somehow (I assume in in a kind of joined up local to cloud - google-ish sort of way)

Just upgraded my Ubuntu machine at work to 13.04. Doesn't seem to be much obviously different. Will report back as I use it more.

I'm having some issues getting Greenfoot to work on 13.04 The downloadable .deb package installs but wont start and there seems to be problems with the generic java version (which isnt workig either). Both of these issues could be down to the jdk however...

I was on 12.04. But hated Unity so have been using Gnome for a long time now (Since I discovered you could switch on the Log in screen) .

But I found it was getting very sluggish lately which coincided with a few updates.

Tried a few out with live disks. Still didn't like Unity so went with Mint cinnamon.
