Re: Ordered something else to fill the time

I bought a nerd kit also. Went throught the first few projects in a couple of hours. Had trouble getting it to program in windows so rebooted in Ubuntu and had no problems after that. I later had windows working with it too. I also bought the AtMega328P and a longer breadboard. Picked up some other components at the local Radioshack. dropped it thinking the RasPi was imminent. Guess I will dig it back out now. You should also check out the circuit lab.

https://www.circuitlab.com/

Seriously considering a Beagle Board -xm. It may let me get on with my projects until I get a RasPi to work with. I am just worried I will get spoiled with 512meg memory. It will be pretty similar except it has a built in 4 port hub (uses 9514 instead of 9512). It is just too bad that it is too expensive for most to buy. Something like 5 RasPii in price. will have to watch my memory usage when loading stuff into linux!

EDIT: I went ahead and ordered a Beagle Board -xm will be here in a week or so. Still have my order in for a RasPi. The BIS just stated that all RasPi have to be compliant to be shipped in the EU and this is probably true in the USA also.

Had a seagate dockstar (pogoplug) lying around that I brought new about 5 months ago for $29 and never took it out of the box.

Stuck a 32gb USB stick into it at the weekend and managed to get debian squeeze installed with lxde, vncserver, geany, aptitude etc.   Nice little box, only has 128Mb ram but gave it lots of swap space.  The dockstar dosn"t have video out but you can plug a serial to usb cable into it pretty easily.  I didn"t go down that route; was happy enough to just ssh into the box, but did install VNC server onto it so that I could run a desktop.  Desktop apps over VNC were fine to work with but its a bit too laggy for anything with moving graphics (freedoom).

Now I just need to find my usb displaylink adapter which I have lying around here somewhere so that I can get some proper video out.

I guess anything I can compile and run on this, will run directly on the Pi.

I think somebody was interested in the TI Wireless Watch devkit if it was discounted.

It's available again for 24.50 USD at http://tideals.com.

Yep I've been checking their site since, and I ordered one yesterday.  Hopefully I'll do something fun with it other than just telling the time.

I can"t see that. Shouldn"t be a coupon code anyway (the previous time they sold them it used a coupon code...so perhaps that is why), should just click on "Get the Deal at Digi-Key", and it"ll take you to:

https://ordering.digikey.com/promotions ... .aspx?id=8

If the stock info is correct, they have 555 (433MHz) 259 (868MHz) and 1306 (915MHz).

The discount pricing is only through that link though (within digikey the site they are full price).  Also, the shipping should be free, but the Fed Ex International Economy option requests a FedEx account number so I selected other and sent them a note after (I would hope they"d pick up on this).

Otherwise, get in contact with them and they will hopefully sort it (they"ve been quick to ensure they can send mine out asking for extra export info etc).

I've just done exactly the same   I'm in the UK so wanted the free shipping still and selected the other but was weary as the total on the order was unknown.  Dropped a note mentioning that i was wanting the free shipping.  Bargin even as a watch tbh.  Need to interface it to the pi in someway though !!

So the lights finally came in and they are *bright*!  The whole project cost me <$50 for 2 meters lights!  I could have done 5 meters off the little power supply I bought and it still would have only run me <$70!

Thank for the tip-off on this cnxsoft. Ordered the 868MHz version for Europe so as to be compatible with BM Innovations' HRM chest strap.

See http://processors.wiki.ti.com/.....30-Chronos
If you aren"t intending to connect other sensors wirelessly, the operating frequency doesn"t really matter, though range is inferior on the 433MHz version.
ETA please ignore the quote fail.

After I got it, I've just played with it to do some temperature measurements outside and in my freezer .

There are a few interesting apps at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/....._Challenge
