I just noticed that the forum is a lot more relaxed this week than last week. At the end of last week, the tone was getting strained and tense. I expected it to be worse this week due to (still) lack of hardware, but the tone has actually relaxed.
After a bit of thinking, I realised that the tension may have been related to the fact that last Friday was payday for a lot of people. I know for me at least, the rattling of coppers at the bottom of my empty piggy bank does not improve my mood.
Having solved this conundrum for myself, I wondered if it would be obvious to somebody reading this forum months or years in the future. And then I asked myself why anybody would even want to read this forum years in the future.
This forum is an absolute goldmine for a psychology researcher. There are so many facets captured here, for example the spontaneous building of a community, the frenzy leading up to first sale, the building of a hierarchy.
This forum could also be of historical significance. I envision that the release of the RPi will be as significant as the "hobby" that Linux Torvalds released on Usenet. In 20 years, researchers might want to track the progress of RPi hour-by-hour.
I am worried that the current contents of the forum may be lost, especially because there is talk of moving away from Wordpress. Therefore, I wish to declare this forum as a National Treasure.
Is there any way to create a dump of the Wordpress database and ensure that several people keep copies? Is it worth it?
