Using a Motorola Lapdock with another make of phone

Just realised my new dual sim Android mobile has micro HDMI and USB sockets so I am thinking I can connect a lapdock to it, and use it as a tablet/laptop.
I assume this should work.
Has anyone else done this, with non Motorola phones. I have managed to source micro hdmi male to micro hdmi female and a similar micro usb cable as well. Just need to source a micro usb male to usb female to test a keyboard if this works then I guess there shouldn't be a problem !!!!!!

Well test one works. Got an Hdmi connector and connected the phone to the TV. This works with no setting up.
Bought an OTG micro usb to Type A socket cable but this didn't work with either a mouse or keyboard. Maybe next try a non OTG cable.
Then finger crossed.
Mind you if it doesn't work on the phone I know it will work for the PI so its a kind of win win. Anyway.

Keyboard is hit and miss if you can plug a USB keyboard into your phone with an adapter then the Lapdock should work. The screen is just that a screen if it has a HDMI output the Lapdock has an HDMI input.

Tried a keyboard but no joy. Have tried both OTG and non otg usb cables, and a powered USB hub as well.
Anyway the lapdock I saw on Ebay has now been sold .
