TWO Questions on the Forum:

Fri Nov 09, 2018 2:35 pm

1 : How do you send a Private Message now, it has changed and I am not finding it just having attempted to send one.

2 : How do you login in a web browser that does not support Java Script? I still prefer to use RISC OS as much as possible, and NetSurf is still not quite up to the JS. This did not used to be a problem, I used to use NetSurf on RISC OS with these forums all the time.

Private Messaging has been turned off, mainly due to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule.

1. PM's are disabled due to privacy and child protection concerns.
2. Don't know. Might not be possible, we have had to upgrade the forum software for security reasons, that may now be too much for the Netsurf browser.

Thank you.

I do not know how using client side scripting improves security, though I will accept having to use a bloat OS and browser to view the forums. Such as life.

The forum does work without Javascript with some restrictions (you have to manually insert quote, code and other tags). Use the prosilver theme.
Login is not easy in all older browsers (including all webkit browsers), because some CSS trickery in the new layout blocks the login link. I had to extract the link from the source view, but fortunately I can stay connected for a long time (usually months).
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

Use is not the trouble, login is.

OK, thank you. In that case I think I will cheat and use this browser to get the login url and hand copy it.

NetSurf is a newer browser FYI. And I did not realize that CSS was the issue, had not looked at the source, usually NetSurf does very well with CSS.

Thank you again. I am posting this reply from NetSurf running within RISC OS. That was a simple fix, I had been being redirected to the education page when attempting to click the login link before, using the url directly fixed the issue.

It also seems that the update to the forums has made it so that NetSurf does not correctly render parts of the pages. This is not a big issue, as it is likely to be corrected in an update to NetSurf in the near future, as is always the case.

that's picking up the mobile view of the RPi theme, which it should do for a low width resolution screen (or low width windows)

For now, try one of the other two themes and see if they behave better. ucp.php?i=174

Thank you:
The Prosilver scheme seems to work quite well. Other than the buttons not showing text.

I had forgotten about the optional themes.

I've been using Prosilver ever since the previous time the forums were updated. It serves as a good reminder that nothing is so bad it can't be made worse.

Sometimes I wonder why the Raspberry Pi website was not purposefully designed to work better with Raspberry Pi computers, especially the Pi Zero. At the same time, I'm happy that the forum works well with my phone.

Login still works even with javascript turned off for more decent security. It may be a matter of finding the link though:

ucp.php?mode=login

Some functionality is missing without it, but nothing essential as far as I can tell :P
