I really like the character and the concepts here, I think there is a huge amount of scope for some excellent stuff.

The only problem I can see so far, is that most of us (I talk in broad terms here, so don't take offence anyone) can't draw, at least as well as that anyway.

So the question is, what can we do to help?

Oops ! made a mistake with the nested quotes ! ( Never any curly braces when you need them !).  Please accept my apology - It was of course scep who said this.

The sad thing is that some MPs ( Not necessarily in Government of course ) were teachers in a previous employment.

Back on topic … loved the idea of the program running through the cartoon strip. No need to defend the use of php – the discussion on which language is best are happening elsewhere – at some length.

After a day on the naughty step it’s great to read my favourite comic!

+1 kokoro!

The use of code is pure genius. So all we need now is a storyline that begins with “Hello World” and slowly introduces absolute beginners to all the elements of Python and it’ll be an absolute winner.

Perhaps Professor Pi lurking around explaining things as they are introduced.

Great stuff. We want more!

+1 on the pure genius.

As meltwater asked "What can we do to help?".  Maybe we could contribute short stories in code format.

Also, has the name of this character been decided? Another thread suggested "Berry" and I really like that.

I have also just put this together:....

Sorry if its only PHP, it is what I have most experience in using.

1.) Don't talk about Fight Club.

2.) Oops, wrong forum

3.) Fantastic, you've just made my day, that's a great strip.

4.) What's wrong with PHP? If it's what you know, stick with it.

I'm sure there will be plenty of other random code snippets supplied by people that you may, or may not, enjoy putting to a new drawing (if you think it's a bad idea shout now, because I'm sure the floodgates will open otherwise). It's certainly a great way of getting kids interested in programming if we can make the code work (ie, copy the code from the cartoon to produce a simple but working program*).

* May be harder than it looks**.

** Neither of these needed to be footnotes.

I was inspired by kokoro's code-narrated strip, so I wanted to write something that would appeal to a teenager.

Having recently tried python for the first time, I saw how easily python uses lists, so I thought this would be a good basis. As market research, I listened to my daughter to see if anything in her life could be expressed as a list.

And viola, the angst of a young girl captured in python code...for friend in my_best_friends:
result=sleepover.invite(friend)
if result==NotAccepted:
my_best_friends.remove(friend)

if len(my_best_friends)==0:
sleepover.cancel()
else
sleepover.prepare()

I did try some C++ the other day.  The learning curve seems really steep.  Maybe I should try python myself.  It looks so much more easy to read and understand... but these arguments are for another thread.  I do like my php though.

Other recent drawings:

 The top left is the spectrum character.  The angel on the right has given me an idea for another pi drawing.  The person laying down with the ugly head is meant to be holding a raspberry and the last drawing is someone holding a board.

I was all set to write the prequel to the sleepover code in COBOL, because I wanted to use

PERFORM POUT THU SLAMDOOR UNTIL DAD AGREES

But I realised that I didn't know enough COBOL to do it. I started to read a COBOL language reference but had to stop before I lost the will to live.

Would be cool to see one of your pencil sketches printed on a white t-shirt, keep up the good work.

I attempted to do a male character that was mentioned earlier in this thread.  I dont often draw male characters.  My first idea was to draw male characters looking like Pob.

Pob would be excelent for Raspberry Pi I think.  Living inside televisions.  Plugging in a Pi brings Pob back to life.

Later I am going to colour the python because I havent done a colour drawing in a while and it should be quick and simple to do.

I agree with the leaves thing. They would look much better to the side. I did do a second pi character who isnt in the earlier pictures. She had straighter hair and I drew a hairclip shape, then thought that the hair clip looked like the coloured lines on a spectrum, so I drew a dress based on the air vents at the back of a spectrum….

I have also just put this together:

Please do more of this. It makes me smile inside. (Outside too)
