What are some useful home applications with Raspberry Pi to interest kids?

What are some problems you encounter at home which can be solved with the Raspberry Pi? I am searching for problems so that I can create solutions to interest my kids in engineering :)

One problem here is: How old are the kids? A project suitable for a 6-year-old is likely to be quite a bit different from a project for a 16-year-old. That said, reading back copies of the MagPi and the blog posts on the RPF home page might be good places to start.
