This turned up in the Twitter stream on the front page. I've no clue as to its context, but here goes.
"We've always said last quarter of the year; I don't know where that turned into early Dec! Should have something before year end. "
As I see it, the reasons for wishing "early December" are something like this:
In terms of last quarter, December is "end of".
People are getting very excited about the Pi.
People would like to give themselves a nice Christmas present.
Christmas (and the New Year) get in the way of commercial transactions at the end of the month.
Postal/other delivery processes are very busy during December!
So, given the above factors, its perfectly natural to hope that the Pi would be available earlier rather than later in the month. Its also got to be remembered that in every other quarter, there isn't an end of quarter imperative to desire the product - there isn't such a hard deadline as Christmas imposes, so long as it happens before the end of the month in other quarters, then everything is ok.
And people are inclined to overlook barriers in persuit of the object of desire.
Anyhow, despite all the above, I'm with the wishful crowd and I'll stick to the 19th and the time I suggested, though the more realistic half of my brain would argue for the the early hours of Friday 30th December...
I'm just a bouncer, splatterers do it with more force.....
