How many of you are using Kodi on Rasberry Pi?

Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:50 am

I am wondering how many of you are using Kodi on Rasberry Pi, as I saw this combination being used by a lot of my friends. It is the main reason I want to learn and know different stuff about Rasberry Pi. Besides, if not Rasberry Pi, which device would better play Kodi?

A lot. I have one and plenty of others do. Raspberry Pi is one of the best boards for a beginner to make a media center because of the community support and the fact that it just works.

None of me use it. The Pi is for hacking code on :)

I use it in the camper van. (via OpenELEC).

I also have other Pi's for different tasks. Or I would if I had to time.

I use standalone Kodi (OpenELEC) with an RPi3B and it works superbly.

I use osmc on a Pi1 and take it with me when the family and I go away. We put the kids' films on it so they can watch something when we need a bit of down time!

A lot of my friends and myself use kodi with raspberry pi 2.
I use kodi like another app in raspbian and I get a versatile all in one system for digital leisure: media center, games (native and emulated via retropie script) and a classic GNU/Linux for experiment and learning.

I use Kodi on TV in living room & also bedroom. Running on a rev 1Pi B. Works great. I did try running it on a pi 3 but that seemed like overkill seeing as the rev 1 was doing just fine so swapped back again.
Still searching for a use for my pi 3 (now where did I put it :? )

I've been using Kodi on my Pi2 for over a year, it has a 1TB HD for storage, a USB 4 port hub to power the Pi, Wifi dongle USB keyboard dongle and USB remote receiver. Gets used every day..

I tried a Pi for a media center and found it did not have two features I wanted. Wake on lan and gigabit ethernet. I use a PC based on a cheap Celeron Mini-ITX board that has both. I can turn it on from my desktop machine upstairs and move files back and forth fast.

As for WOL, you could either leave it on permanently, or get a power timer, I used one for years on my DAB/Minidisc setup.
Worked flawlessly.

I've been running XBMC/Kodi on a rev1 B (upgraded to B+ now) for a long time.
First with an external 1TB harddisk, but now I pull all media from my NAS.

I haven't bothered with indexing all movies & series though, so it doesn't look as slick as it could, but it works great if you use a sensible directory layout.
My wife is really happy with the CEC controls, as it means one less remote on the table :D

I have tried Kodi with it, but I've been able to use my Pi to torrent & play movies from a NAS for a while now. Earlier i was setup some kodi addons but it failed to install dependency.
