### 4 bands vs 5 bands resistors (color blind)

just replenished my 1987 resistor kit using a ebay vendor.

I ordered thin film 5 bands (blue body).

But the red they use is really strange, to the point I wonder if they simply did not made a mistake.
My ohmmeter is telling me both are 18K...

sorry for replying to my own post.

Ok, there is no mistake.

the red they use is not rendered nicely on a blue body (looks violet)
this is a 27K resistor (showing the red & violet):

The red looks a bit purple? But more red than orange?

The 5-band is saying 180 * 100 = 18K,
The 4-band is saying 18 * 1000 = 18K.

The 5-band is higher precision.

To clarify further:
1 (Brown) 8(Grey) 0(Black) *100(Red ie. 2 decades)
1 (Brown) 8(Grey) *1000(Orange ie. 3 decades)
But I agree, the colours are less clear on a blue background.

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

Having come across inductors that look exactly the same, I never fit a resistor without first using my meter to confirm that it really is what I think it's telling me it is

Thanks for reminding me ... I've needed to do that for some time, now.
