Python on Mac OSX

Hi;
I want to be able to learn and code in python on my Mac OS X 10.11.1 for projects on my Pi and have a couple of questions if I may.
1. I have python 2.7.9 installed using homebrew but how do I update it to the latest version 2 and or 3 using homebrew?
2. I have been using text wrangler as an IDE however have just come across Pycharm, as a should I install Pycharm Professional or Lite?
3. I also see Pycharm do an educational version, if I install do I need any other version of Pycharm for my own projects?
The reason for using my Mac is that I don't always have access to my Desk Based RPi and coding remotely using VNC is difficult (visually).
Many thanks for looking at these questions
Thanks
