What is your current PC/OS

Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:26 pm

I have a Lenovo y50 with Windows 10 and Ubuntu dual boot.
I also have all versions of the Pi except the A and Zero
By thinking like an engineer you can create a raspberry pi.
Michael Jackson enthusiast.
I got the PI model B, B+ and PI 2 model B.
When will I get the A? I don't know.

I'm running a Toshiba laptop with Windows 8 (I'm not a lover of Windows) have 2 RPI 2B's, 1 RPI B, 1 RPI Zero and a HP slate 7 Tablet which I use the most. (And the reason I use that the most is because of Microsoft Windows.)

I haven't had one of them since Windows 98.
My Windows XP used to take 20 minutes to boot up and froze quite a lot.
Windows 8 updates without asking and thinks its a smartphone.

Windows probably did Windows 10 internet of things because they don't want people going over to Linux.

My Lenovo Z580 running Win10 is a perfectly serviceable laptop. It can run Linux from a USB stick. I also have a Ubuntu system that runs in a Oracle VM Virtualbox emulator.

I can also run the Hercules S/370 if I want an emulated proper computer to play with, not one of these Fisher-Price toys.

Erm... That depends on which of my boxes we're talking about...

Hoth: Core i5 4670K, 16GB RAM, ~1.1TB disk space, Windows 8.1 (general-purpose & gaming system)
Dantooine: Pentium G3258, 8GB RAM, 256GB disk space, Windows 10 (used exclusively for Steam & Kodi)
Tattooine: Core2Duo E8400, 4GB RAM, 320GB disk space, Windows 10 (used exclusively for Kodi)
Alderaan: Dual Xeon E5405, 8GB RAM, ~5TB disk space, Windows Server 2008 R2
Bespin: (Virtual Hyper-V instance), CentOS 7 (used exclusively for Plex Media Server)

I've got a few inactive Hyper-V instances for services I don't use any more, but I think they all ran either CentOS 6 or 7. And all my (currently running) Pis use Raspbian (yes, with Star Wars hostnames - I can only think of a few non-Expanded Universe planet names I haven't used before!)

I use CentOS for Plex because Plex doesn't natively support running as a service on Windows Server, and the workarounds I've tried are a bit kludgy - "systemctl start plex.service" is far, far easier.

I would probably mix them up if they were too similar so I go for something that reflect their usage.
My old NAS was "Nasse", my new one became "BigNasse". :D

( Piglet from Winnie the Pooh is called "Nasse" in Norway and Sweden at least )

I'm currently using names from the Apollo space program
xxx.xxx.xxx.5 on my network is saturn (from Saturn 5) - Pi B
xxx.xxx.xxx.9 is called eagle (Apollo 11 LEM) - Pi2B
xxx.xxx.xxx.11 is called apollo - PiB+
xxx.xxx.xxx.13 is called odyssey (that's the LEM again, and the craft that got the crew home) - PiB
xxx.xxx.xxx.15 is called falcon (that's the Apollo 15 LEM name) - PiZero

The other four have really boring names (pi, raspberry, raspberry pi and aplus).

I had planet and constellation names for a while, but I'd not thought about space programmes - I like that.
