OK so my laptop's subnet mask must match the router's mask for me to post to the forum, but not to post to elsewhere!

Good grief - sorry about that. We have some pretty zealous anti-spam software (we get thousands of spam comments a day that don't make it onto the board) which sometimes misidentifies people with dynamic IP addresses and puts a flag against their email even when their IP has changed. I stuck you on the whitelist, and I'm glad you've found a workaround.

That's ok. A month ago I bought a NAS, worked well for my stuff, but my daughter's laptop wouldn't shut down properly with it on the network (blue screen &c.) so I rejigged the masks so she couldn't see it but I could. Then my router died, so I put in the free one that orange had given me, and every thing (eventually) worked - or seemed to. It only just occurred to me today that was the problem (brain slows down with age, just like windows). So now I can't see the NAS but I can post!

Yeah - most of the problems seem to be with people who are with Orange, unfortunately.
