Indeed, but assuming that there are some "test" or "preview" RasPiOS builds, gives people time to get stuff working on the new release. That said, I've started testing my stuff on the April Debian Bullseye Pi build and haven't run into any major issues yet.

Just read in another post, RPi5 details almost sorted out - wonder how long the process will be from details to hardware....I'm guessing somewhere in about 2 years - hope I can still afford one...

(No, I'm not even going to guess what it will be...... :D )

When Eben was asked Does that mean no imminent plans for a Raspberry Pi 5, then? "We're thinking about it. We're not quite sure what it'll look like yet," he says.

No. IT was "20210413".

However the official Debian 11, via netinstall , is preferable as everything just works ...

I am too lazy to mess with the Debian images. I installed RPIOS arm64, added Debian unstable repo ,
ran apt update; apt full-upgrade, added the rpios bullseye repo, update/upgraded, then ran rpi-update.
All is good.

It's a pretty good bet that the base model list price will be $35.

(Since it's now been pretty much exactly 2 years since the Pi4B launched, I think it reasonable to expect the Pi5B in not much more than another year.)

As its designed to a price even at concept stage, the hardware is probably pretty much fixed, possibly down to component supply chains, it maybe the software and documentation that will be the longest remaining part of development depending how much different the hardware is from existing products.

My sensors say they may be wary of producing a Pi500

Apparently, the freeze date for Debian 11 (Bullseye) is 17 July.
Estimated release date from the people in the various #debian irc channels that are in the know, seem to think it will be released July 31st.
