How many pi's do YOU own?

Wed Jul 08, 2020 1:58 pm

This data is in no way being used just my curiosity.
Running Raspberry Pi OS Full, therefore my comments will be based on that
Using RPI-4B 4GB at 2.1GHz CPU and 700MHz GPU
don't format your sd because someone said so.

There isn't an "I don't know" option.

Oh well, poll will probably get deleted anyway.

[moderator, yes it will]

Thank you :)

I take it that 10+ means "don't know".

I have owned many more but gave away the older models to local schools.

So does 5+.

So if you have 11 Pi, you could try to tick 5+ and 10+ ?

Please don't create spurious polls, some readers really hate them, and demand their removal ASAP.

In the opinion of many here (including most/all of the mods), ALL polls are spurious.

If this is not the case, then how is a perspective poll-enterer to know if his poll will be considered spurious?

(BTW, the underlying thing here is that the honchos would disable polls entirely in the software, if they could. Apparently, it is not possible to do so...)

No, I could imagine a poll that would not be only used as a "toy", and have in the past allowed polls that had some merit.

Also, I only remove polls when I get a complaint (most often from the same person, you know who you are.. "D". :P ).

Actually I really do consider the merit of a poll, before I delete it.

In this case a poll would only be restricting and superfluous.

Myself, I have about half a dozen, havent counted them for ages.

All I can say is "I don't know". I *do* know that I have 10 Pi4Bs, and an 11th en route at the moment. That, of course, ignores all the Pis I have from previous models. The one model I know I don't have any of is the 256MB Model B v2.0. (I have several earlier Model B Pis and I have several 512MB Model B v2.0 Pis. But not the one specified.)

Other Pis I don't have: Any with non-standard PCB colors. Some of the CM3 versions, most of the CM3+ versions.

So, ultimately, the answer to basic question is: Lots.

Personally, I just roll my eyes at polls and decline to answer. I do pretty much the same with "polls" conducted by phone. (Scare quotes because far too many such "polls" are thinly disguised efforts to influence opinions on an issue or candidate and not actually trying to gauge existing opinions.)

This, of course, doesn't even get to the point that nearly all forum polls are very poorly designed...which is what you'd expect from a population that probably includes very, very few people who have an in depth knowledge of how to construct and evaluate effective polls. And that is before one realizes that, with a self-selected group of respondents and no selection controls, the results wouldn't mean anything anyway.

Ok im sorry, this poll meant nothing which is just why i put it in off topic, there are some polls which are good but most are pointless, like mine which is why I put it in off topic

Also 5+ meant between 5 and 9 and 10+ sorta just meant I have 10 or more than I can count ;)

But they still have to--somehow--be related to Pis.

Nobody is forcing you to participate. If you don't like polls, ignore the thread and move along.

I thought it was interesting how many people had more than 10 Pi’s.

My honest answer would be: Not enough.
(I think I've got about 29, but I'm not sure. I keep finding them hiding in odd places).

There is still the sample bias problem. Not all Pi owners have registered for the forums. Not all those that have registered post very much (or at all). I suspect that many people who post, don't ever look at Off Topic. The more prolific posters are likely to be more active users of Pis, and hence have more of them.

As I recall back in the early days of Pis, it was mentioned that the RPF expectation was that the typical Pi owner would buy 1 to 3 Pis. It rapidly became apparent that the active Pi users were buying more in the 5 to 7 range. Now that we are on 4th generation Pis, it should be no surprise that there is a noticeable cohort that have 10s of Pis. Can you imagine the estate sales when the early adopters start dying off...?

That works on some boards/forums, but that is clearly not the mentality of this forum.

You raise a valid point, I agree, all the long term pi forum members act like to much like mods, if you have moderator status I will listen
