GUI OMX Player

Thu Aug 22, 2013 12:33 am

Hi everyone

I'll be travelling to India next week to Install some Rasberry Pi's in some rural village schools. I've got RACHEL Pi LAN servers setup for them but I'm also bringing USB drives (with a powered USB hub) so the kids can watch preloaded movies and videos.

I'm personally barely computer literate :D but with a lot of help from those more knowledgeable I've been able to get everything working (i've got a Hindi Cartoon playing on OMX at this very moment).

My concern is that since it was relatively hard for me (a total noob but native English speaker) to get OMX player to run the vids via command line maybe someone out there knows of or is willing to make a GUI interface for OMX? That way I won't have to worry about showing the kids how to use the command line (in a language they don't speak or read) to open videos...

I'm actually leaving for India next week so time is of the essence. I'm willing to pay someone to develop this if that helps motivate any of you Linux wizards out there...

Cheers!
JK

You must have missed the answer on another thread- try my TBOPlayer

https://github.com/KenT2/tboplayer

Its just a gui frontend to omxplayer

Best to check before you go that omxplayer will play the videos you want. You may need to buy codecs from the Foundation

I Have a 2.2" Display from Adafruit, and are trying to execute a similar response from omxplayer. Maybe we can make it based on windows 98 (For simpler pixels) ;)

(Sorry if i'm bumping an older thread--This is my first post. :) )

I haven't tried it but, omxplayerGUI should do exactly what you want to do.
There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary and those who don't.

Is there a way to convert that to an xbmc - like interface for my smaller screen whilst keeping wheezy? Or Is that only accomplished custom? If you can resize the GUI Window to work with my 2.2" and make it work with GPIO Pins, I Don't know how to..I'm Fairly new to this community... :?: :P

Most of you probably aren't visualizing what I Am when I Say Type 'Simpler Pixels' and such. I've Created a MOCKUP Of what i think of what an OMXPlayer GUI Would look like using Windows 98 as an inspiration. The Smallness of everything is because I am hooked up to a 2.2" Adafruit Display... The only one that is really finished is the music one...

In the pictures, there is 2 Back & Forward Buttons. The back one (left) goes to the left tab (ie Videos) and the forward one (right) goes to the next tab (ie Pictures) The Box would be used for thumbnails... :D
I Dabble in graphic designs, and I Think this is exceptional (for MS-Paint standards :P)

If you are not willing to explore (and modify ?!) the solutions
the others have explained , you will propably have do code it
completely by yourself and duplicate effort that way ...

Hi, thanks for this. :D

I'm a newbie trying to install this unsuccessfully on my raspberry pi3 with raspbian.
I didnt have problems to install omx-wrapper using pip, neither downloanding gomx.py and gomx_setup.sh using Wget.

My problems started when I wrote in a terminal
chmod +x gomx_setup.sh
I guess because I needed use "sudo" first because after that it worked.
But when I wrote and sudo ./gomx_setup.sh I got :
./gomx_setup.sh: 8: ./gomx_setup.sh: Syntax error: newline unexpected

As far I understand, there's a problem in line 8, I'd opened using nano , but I don't understand the code

7#
8# <!DOCTYPE html>
9# <html lang="en">
10# <head>

Can you see where's the problem, Can you please help me with this ?

You did not download gomx_setup.sh properly. You must use the "raw" version URLs
with wget !

Examples :

https://github.com/vladcc/gomx/raw/mast ... x_setup.sh
https://github.com/vladcc/gomx/raw/master/gomx/gomx.py

Absolutely right !!!!

That was the problem, I used a wrong URL not the RAW. I downloaded the files, but not the good ones !!

This GUI is amazing !!! Still can´t believe my pi3 can play huge MKV files !!!

Thanks.
