Those who like to keep up-to-date with rpi-update might wish to know that the firmware update published on 30 April caused the sound on Ubuntu MATE 16.04 to be muted. I reverted back to the version published on 27 April and the sound worked again.
I filed a bug report (
https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/ ... -217492486) which, after some dialogue, resulted in an upgrade to the firmware and a kernel bump to 4.4.9 (see
https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/commits/master) on 6 May (today). This seems to work on my Raspberry Pi 2 & 3 running Ubuntu MATE 16.04. If others in the group might like to update their kernels and firmware, this would help to confirm that the bug is fixed.
I am trying to run a Software Defined Radio app.
http://gqrx.dk/ under Ubuntu MATE using a FUNCube dongle
http://www.funcubedongle.com/?page_id=1073. The app. tends to consume most of the RPi 3's CPU resources which causes its temperature to rise. I have fitted a self-adhesive heat sink (from the Pi Hut) but it needs a stream of cooling air to keep the temperature from rising. If my 5v cooling fan arrives in time, I hope to bring the Pi along on Wednesday.
