Raspberry Jam York, Saturday 8th June

Mon Apr 15, 2013 8:57 pm

Hi. I'm helping the National STEM Centre in York to organise a Raspberry Jam on Saturday 8th June.

If you are willing to help us please get in touch with me. At this stage, I am keen to speak to anyone who can offer a demonstration, a talk or a class.

Tickets for people who want to turn up but dont want to demo, talk or run a class will be available later.

The York Raspberry Jam on 8th June is taking shape. Pete Lomas, designer of the Pi will be speaking. There will also be a large space where people can set up their own Pi and show off what they can do. More information can be found here. http://raspberryjam.eventbrite.co.uk/#

Here at the National STEM Centre plans are coming together rather well. We have a packed programme and tickets are going rather quickly - especially since we made it onto the raspberrypi.org homepage!

I believe there are still some slots available for people to come along and do demonstrations of their own creations. If you want to know technical details about what is available here (power, network, biscuits etc) then feel free to get in touch.

See you all on 8th June,

I'm planning on being there, billed as 'slices of pi, little talk on [blank sheet of] Paper to pi3d aerial dog-fight game' but in the morning.

here's a preview of the talk. Of course the real one will mainly involve python code which I haven't shown. (before 2m30 is powerpoint pi3d style, after 2m30 shows the flight simulator)

Edit: slightly better 'fighting'

Paddyg - that looks stunning. I'm looking forward to seeing it for real on Saturday. Anyone else want to share a preview of what they're bringing?

I'm sorry to announce (but also quite pleased) that the York Jam is now fully booked!

Great day at the York Raspberry Jam, the National STEM Centre was a great venue, and the talks and sessions that I saw were very good - just a shame it was logistically tricky to see everything with so many different strands going on in parallel so I know I must have missed a lot. Great job Alan O'Donohoe and all involved.

For those living in York who are inspired to look further into the maker movement and hardware hacking, such as robots, wearable computers, 3D printers and more, we have a York Hackspace meeting Wednesdays at 8pm at Guppy's Enterprise Club opposite the pay & display car park on Nunnery Lane - http://york.hackspace.org.uk/

We went as a family and all three of us found something at our level.
I felt the programming Minecraft Pi session was excellent with people of all ages and abilities helping each other work through the well-structured exercises. Before this session the penny hadn't really dropped with me as to how Minecraft pi can be used as an entry to Python. Now I get it.
