Raspberry Pi based Autonomous Robot project to be published (Pulurobot)

Affordable autonomous Open Source mobile robot controlled with Raspberry Pi carrying at least 90Kg to be published at Fosdem 2018, at the ULB Solbosch Campus, Brussels, Belgium, Sunday 4th February 2018, at 10:30 in UB2.252A (Lameere).

Home of Linux - Helsinki University - has already taken headstart by starting education with the platform January 2018.

And the best part? It is technically Raspberry Pi hat!

It needs one Raspberry Pi for navigation and communication with RobotBoard, but can feed up to five Raspberries if you need more power or multiple Operating Systems to your application. (The second Raspberry in image is there for illustration purposes only - it is not attached to Raspberry as quick o'eye already noticed, but that is the place where additional Raspberries go).


It is meant to be an application platform. If you need more batteries for your application, you can stack it onto the robot. Inside the robot is a space for 240Wh 18650 battery array, but chassis easily accommodates around 1KWh. The robot carries roughly ten times its own weight, it is up to you what you want to do with it!


It also works out of the box (insert SIM for 3G or configure WLAN), does mapping autonomously (yes, it is doing Simultaneous Localization And Mapping - SLAM). Moving happens in mapped space avoiding all obstacles - new or old. You do not need to teach or program it. It learns!

Yes, it is compatible with ROS, but it works without ROS.

Pulu M serial #1 sold (not luckily yet delivered, therefore in pics above) to Helsinki University will be available to closer inspection. Fosdem suffers from lack of space, but we are dedicated to find enough space to roam around at campus! Private presentations will be offered and opportunity to peek into the machine for the whole weekend.

You also have an opportunity to see our 3D TOF sensor prototype alive and kicking and get a grasp how it works, even in direct sunlight (if available). It beats EVERY 2D Lidar, and most stereo cameras. The first production sensor is in the oven, but unfortunately the batch won't get to Fosdem in time.
