Re: Ubuntu / Linaro for Raspberry Pi 2

hi guys,
i tried this image and it worked really easily.

There is something i don't understand though :
when i connect to the RPI2 through ssh and run the command :

Code: Select all

sudo service lxdm stop
then the screen shows a console logged in with a root account, and i can't log off from it.

I also tried to boot in console mode by default

Code: Select all

sudo cp /etc/X11/default-display-manager /etc/X11/default-display-manager.orig
sudo echo "/bin/true" > /etc/X11/default-display-manager
(btw, is there a better way to do that ? i didn't find any /etc/inittab file unfortunately...)
It also auto logged in with the root account.

how can i disable that "auto login to root" thing ?

Doing the following will stop auto login (I personally hate auto login unless you have a media centre etc)

Code: Select all

echo manual | sudo tee /etc/init/openvt.override

Disable the "lxdm" service from starting on boot -- try

Code: Select all

echo "manual" > /etc/init/lxdm.override

So, quick check to see what changes/features should be added to next version?
So far it'll include:
* Updated kernel
* Videocore libraries
* rpi-update
* possibly an auto-resizing-SD-card feature

Is there anything else handy I should throw in as well?

If possible the ability to upgrade without the need to reflash!

Hello, would you be willing to share your setup? I'm interested in Ubuntu on the Pi2 as well. But I would need Trusty/14.04.1 to play with ROS on it.

That would not be my first bigger build project;-) But I would prefer not to start all the way from zero.

Thanks,

Yeah, I'm sorry about that!
Once things have settled down, that should be the case - you'll be able to use regular Ubuntu package management to upgrade most things, and rpi-update to manage the others.

Hello,

Some suggestions for the new build:

Modified rpi-config with overclocking, Autologin on/off, and keyboard config

Wifi config would be useful for non-geeks! :D Especially if your going to make it appeal to classrooms.

When will you be publishing a final build (production)?

I started a new thread to discuss Linaro vs Raspbian benchmark results... I ran a lot of benchmarks comparing the two.

Thank you again wintrmute for your Pi2B Linaro image!

the sound module isn't loaded by default

Code: Select all

sudo su
modprobe snd_bcm2835
cp /etc/modules /etc/modules.orig
echo snd_bcm2835 >> /etc/modules
If your RPI2 is connected to a TV using HDMI, you might need to uncomment "hdmi_drive=2" in the /boot/config.txt file

Hi there, just installed linaro on the Pi2 , having trouble getting it to recognise the KeySonic 2.4Ghz wireless keyboard/trackpad, that did work on Wheezy out of the box, any ideas where to go with this/what to install?
It has a USB dongle and the keyboard

Many thanks

Just found this - it's looking great.

A couple of (possibly stupid) questions - how do I set the locale? I'm in the UK but I appear to have a US keyboard layout.

And, when I click Shutdown, I get GDBux.Error.org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Operation not permitted - so how should I shut it down (or am I doing something stupid?)

sudo locale-gen sv_SE.UTF-8 thats for me in Sweden, for you in UK it would be en_EN.UTF-8

I have the same shutdown problem.

Just installed this image. Seems more responsive at first already, nice.
What do i need to install on this (which packages?) to use my wifi dongle? There is not wpa_supplicant package in the repos apparently...?

Edit: Found the package under another name and installed wpagui.
But no module loads for each of my Wifi dongle. I tried googling "Linaro + name of the device" from lsusb, but i only find kernel sources for odroids...

As has been stated: "Awesome!"
Thanks so much.
The video in Rasbuntu is overshooting my monitor, though, and I can't shrink it or otherwise adjust the monitor. The margin adjustments don't bring in the bottom toolbar, which is really the crux of the issue.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

can you remove that screensaver program? its very outdated and has an annoying popup :P

also linaro does not have permissions to restart the computer.

and any chance of ubuntu software center being added? i apt-getted it, works great but must run it with sudo each time.

Hi.

I tried to install Unity using the linaro-ubuntu-desktop metapackage and gdm via Synaptic. I had to set lightdm as default because with gdm I only got a black screen.

If I try to login into Ubuntu Desktop, I just got a blank screen with a cursor.

¿Any idea about fixing it?

Thank you for making this work.

Trying to figure out how to auto launch a chromium app/extension upon log in but can not seem to find a way to do so. Any ideas?
