Re: Alternative Operating Systems for the Pi

Im glad for DavidS's comments. I consider "Linux" a single OS... you can port 100 different distributions of it, but its still just Linux. Kinda like "Windows with Notepad", "Windows with Notepad++", "Windows without Notepad". Id like to see more non-*nix systems. As he mentioned with DexOS , there's a number of bare metal OS developers over in the other forums working on some pretty cool things. Id would be nice to emphasize those efforts moreso than "just-another-Linux". The philosophy of the Rpi is education based... what better way than to promote education by sharing something completely new, with readable source code? (who really reads the Linux source code? and then who actually understands it? lol) Just my $0.03.

the origonal list is here:

not sure why they took the wiki link off the main page and hid it on a sub page, but I guess you all missed it.

I think the Wiki needs an update. There's no sensible version of Android that's available even for the dedicated hackers. That Android 2.3 Wiki hasn't been updated for months.

Tue Dec 10, 2013 1:15 am

An updated Slackware ARM installer using the 3.10.22 kernel is available: http://rpi.fatdog.eu/index.php?p=downloads

No problems running it on the latest RPi with micron ram either. ;)
