[SOLVED] Unable to edit files on Raspberry Pi (linux mint)

Fri Feb 08, 2019 10:44 am

Hello,
I am working with Raspberry PI which is set up as a headless Samba server. It was working nicely for some months and then it stopped working. When a display and keyboard was connected it hung at one screen and I wasnt able to get control..
Hence I inserted the Microsd card on to a card reader and connected it to my laptop card reader slot. When connected,it mounts the Pi micro sd card as read only. Due to this I am not able to edit any files as all are in read only mode

Code: Select all

mount|grep sdb
/dev/sdb3 on /media/uma/2b1c8ff1-70e8-4bac-adac-825d5de5ce05 type ext4 (ro,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uhelper=udisks2)
/dev/sdb1 on /media/uma/boot type vfat (ro,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,showexec,utf8,flush,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks2)
/dev/sdb2 on /media/uma/rootfs type ext4 (ro,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uhelper=udisks2)
I have connected the card to Mint 19.1 Cinnamon edition
Thanks all in anticipation.

Here is one more command

Code: Select all

sudo umount /dev/sdb1
[sudo] password for uma:
[email protected] ~ $ sudo fsck -y /dev/sdb1
fsck from util-linux 2.31.1
fsck.fat 4.1 (2017-01-24)
open: Read-only file system

There is a switch on the Micro sd card which keeps the micro sd card in write protected mode. Keeping it in correct mode puts the card in write mode.

Return to “Other”
