Chromium OS for Raspberry Pi 3B / 3B+, now updated to r72

Mon Nov 19, 2018 5:10 pm

Update: 24 Jan 2019
The repo has been updated today with Chromium OS r72, prebuilt image available under:
https://github.com/FydeOS/chromium_os_f ... i/releases

Greetings from Fyde Innovations.

A few years ago there were several projects to port Chromium OS onto Raspberry Pi, some of which got merged into the upstream official repository. However it seems they didn't attract too much attention from either the Pi / CrOS community over the years.

I'd like to introduce one of our actively maintained open source projects - Chromium OS for Raspberry Pi. Github link for source code and BIY instructions here

If you are only interested in the pre-built image, look out for the public releases:

Today we have just pushed a new release for Chromium OS v70 to work with Raspberry Pi 3B / 3B+, with updated documentation and a pre-built binaries.

I hope this can help anyone who wishes to run Chromium in a more graphically efficient way. If anyone is interested in picking up the development of Chromium OS for Pi, this may be another source of reference.

Bit baffled

I thought Fyde was a Chinese fork of Flint?

I know Flint got bought out by Neverware back at the start of this year so who now looks after Flint?

Well done, the latest version of Chromium OS on the Pi was something I wanted to happen. Just wondering: will it fit on an 8GB microSD?

EDIT: Seems like these are instructions to build Chromium OS for the Pi, not a prebuilt image. Since my laptop has 8GB RAM and 64-bit Ubuntu 18.10, I'll try building Chromium OS when I have time.

Seems like Neverware have no plans to port Cloudready to ARM :(

There is a "release" tab in the repo, this is what you should look out for:

Read the release notes before trying this...

  • This release is of a test build, which is by design very insecure, as quoted from Viper: "You must never log in to them with credentials you care about. It will automatically start ssh with root access via well known credentials."
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

It won't 💥, it's just worth mentioning don't copy over your public key that you use somewhere else to authorized_keys or modify the default password to something you use somewhere else.
