Cannot SSH RPi3 over WiFi, [with Ubuntu Mate] but can ping

Wed Aug 01, 2018 12:59 pm

Hello,

I am using Raspberry Pi 3 with Ubuntu Mate 16. I am interested to establish an SSH connection between my laptop and RPi3 through WiFi.

Both my laptop and RPi3 have been connected to the same WiFi network, without internet. I have edited the .bashrc files and enabled SSH in sudo raspi-config. I am able to ping the RPi3 from laptop, but I cannot establish an SSH connection. When I try SSH connection, it does not show any error but just stays blank until I press Ctrl+C.

Is this because I do not have Internet connection in my WiFi Network? Can somebody help?

Thanks.

Editing .bashrc should not be relevant to SSH.

About the SSH connection, when you connect to the client using -v, or -v -v, or -v -v -v for extra information, does it provide any output?

When I run : ssh -v -v -v [email protected]_ip_address, I get the below output:

OpenSSH_7.2p2 Ubuntu-4ubuntu2.4, OpenSSL 1.0.2g 1 Mar 2016
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
debug1: /etc/ssh/ssh_config line 19: Applying options for *
debug2: resolving "client_ip_address" port 22

debug1: Connecting to client_ip_address [client_ip_address] port 22.

You can ping, do you receive pong ? What are the statistics ? Please show.

Please provide the output from the following commands executed on your Pi:

Code: Select all

ifconfig
route
I have the absurd idea that there is an unconnected fixed IP address wired ethernet interface that might be involved.

Yes the Ping was successful, the message packets were received, if that is what you meant.
