There are 2 versions of the RPi 2B, the initial release was ARMv7 BCM2836, whilst version 1.2 is ARMv8 BCM2837.
Raspbian Operating System is a re-spin of ARM32 Debian ARMHF which functions on all RPis, ARMv6 / ARMv7 / ARMv8 CPU Architecture.
There are many scenarios where running a 64bit Operating System is advantageous, and searching this Forum would find many Posts.
FYI the OP has an ARMv7 RPi 2B
