Have you tested FullHD videos on youtube? How well does it work?

Cheers.
On Raspbian with the optimized browser the decoding of youtube videos is very low on the CPU, but with Firefox on Mate it uses 100% of the CPU, i don't even know if there is hardware decoding in this case? No clue. Anyone knows? But it's not really great.

Although it's possible to use the "youtube-dl" program and watch the things with "omxplayer" when you want HD or Full HD.

Edit: And thanks a lot for this guide, i'll use it for the Pi Store, possibly Kodi, and RetroPie would be great because the Hatari emulator from Mate need doesn't work well. (The sound/audio is choppy/stutters/or doesn't work sometimes...)

Tiny Script~

Sat Apr 30, 2016 6:58 pm

Hello c: I read around the topic last night and decided to write a script. However it's mostly for Lubuntu Pi (But I'm sure it should work just fine with others.) For a little ease for newcomers. I divided the script in two parts, the Mate to LXDE with some packages and then the categories. Please note, I didn't notice the pepper flash problem until now (After the script was uploded)
so if you intend to use it, please reffer to the link http://fl.us.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/ar ... pkg.tar.xz

Part 1 : http://pastebin.com/CFngA4zw
Part 2: http://pastebin.com/sEvi3uJA << RetroPie "included"

Hope it helps c:

Last time i tried to install RetroPie on Ubuntu Mate 15.10 some weeks ago it didn't work... So does it really work now? On 16.04?

(i'll see if i can test again...)

I'm still installing but my internet is really bad, so it takes a while. However, most of the things it's installed works just fine, the only thing I'm not sure how to configure is the emulation station and I'm thinking it does it on the configuration so, hopefully it works well.
PS: I'll be honest, my Bash is a bit rusty, so I'll just make rewrite those scripts

I found a good alternative to watching Youtube in FF was SMPlayer, this also comes with SM Tube. This allows you to run a custom search window that sends the video to SMPlayer. You can configure it to use custom building of mplayer which takes advantage of the graphics processing power of the Pi. It is a bit like using Youtube-dl and then OMXPlayer, but all in one package. The only issue I've found is sound slightly out of sync (analog audio) so have to use the (-) minus key to jog it back a bit. Am now using a Pi3 with Ubuntu mates like my old desktop PC. The best lesson I've learned is patience!

Dear Mequa, your raspberry pi image is really nice, Thanks I booted into it and installed ssh vnc and xrdp after resizing the filesystem, but I am unable to logon through ssh or vnc but I am able to logon through xrdp , what can be the reason, Dr.D.K.Samuel, IIHR, Bangalore India
Hope you setup both vnc and ssh from sudo raspi-config, sometimes it happens, if you are sure that setup is correct, please use Mobaxterm free version to check, you can also use terminus app from windows 10 store
