Chromium doesn't support hardware (GPU) acceleration for videos. Only browsers based on the new webkit3 engine can do this (epiphany, kweb3).
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

Hi !

Got your image running, works fine!

Could you let us know where you got Kodi 14.1~jessie from ?
Did you compile yourself ? If yes, would you be so kind as to share your ./configure parameters and an outline of the procedure ?

Thanks,
Karl

Thanks for the update ... working great! loaded geany and gcc. No issues ... although I updated the hdmi settings in config.txt. Running on a RP 2.

update: having some issues with Kodi both freezing on startup or black screen on exit. Sometimes it works ok ... there seems to be two instances of it in top and when you use kill it restarts on it's own. Will test it on another system later today. Error in log file is FATAL: Capplication::Create: Unable to create window with some errors before that; EGL error in CreateSurface: 300b and error CreateWindow: could not create surface and error CreateNewWindow: Could not create new window.

Does anyone know when this image will be hosted on a normal server, so that people (like me) don't have to mess around with torrent sh*t?

Alternatively, so I've downloaded this 21K ".torrent" file. What do I do with it?
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

downloaded this 21K ".torrent" file

Please be patient you are downloading, possibly the server is busy as it uses bittorrent and btsync simultaneously

I think he's asking what the next step after downloading the .torrent file would be. The answer is that you would open that .torrent file with a BitTorrent client such as uTorrent or Transmission which should begin to download the .img file you want.

I've got a "torrent client" called (amazingly!) "unworkable" that actually has worked well in the past.

However, it doesn't work on this image. I'm not particularly interested in endless mucking around with "torrent" clients.

Therefore, i ask again, is there any chance this will be hosted on a regular system at some point?

I'll upload it somewhere for you temporarily if the OP doesn't mind.

For what it is worth, whenever I try to get this image via torrent (unworkable), it "stalls".

I've tried this from at least 2 different (global) IP addresses.

See below:

% unworkable aliendeb-rpi2-20150320.zip.torrent
{At this point, it spins through a "hash check", and creates the 1G file shown below - which consists of all nulls - then just "stalls" until I hit ^C)
aliendeb-rpi2-20150320.zip.torrent hash ok: 0% rx: 0 0.0KB/s - stalled -^C
% ls -lsa
6328 -rw------- 1 user group 1,102,600,990 Mar 25 16:23 aliendeb-rpi2-20150320.zip

The torrent definitely works. It doesn't download that fast, 150-200KB/s or so, but it works.

Confirmed. I've downloaded aliendeb-rpi2-20150304.zip and aliendeb-rpi2-20150320.zip using Transmission.

Most likely a lack of gpu memory. What do you have gpu_mem set to? Needs to be at least 128 (ideally 256).

This doesn't work for me. I need a simple download link that I can "wget".

If you're tempted to ask why this is so, don't. It's complicated.

BTW, the irony of one of the "I've got an image, guys!" guy hosting his image on a Microsoft server is not lost on many. Hosting one on a Google server is only slightly less ironic...

Thanks Dom for the suggestion ... the default from the aliendeb config file was 160 so I bumped that up to 256. Did not seem to make any difference. Top is showing 752352 total memory so it does look like the GPU is using the remainder. I've tried some searches and some more testing. It seems that if i start kodi from the terminal kodi -standalone then when I exit it stills goes to a black screen but then i can hit ctrl-alt f1 and alt-f7 to get the gui back. Adding the additional memory and making sure that I only click the icon once seems to have fixed the hanging up on Kodi startup issue (I was always seeing two instances of kodi in top in these cases from the ssh login)

- thanks again for any help or suggestions you might have.

Why /boot/firmware/config.txt hace args gpu_mem and force_turbo repeated?
