Remote 'shell'?

Sat Dec 22, 2012 9:43 am

I know RISCOS is single user, but I wonder if there's a utility that's something like a telnetd or sshd I can run to enable remote access for things like the command line and BASIC editing.

I figure this might be a little tricky to accomplish - the native addressing of the 'VDU' is probably quite different to existing client terminals, though someone might have done some kind of mapping or even created a portable terminal app just for the purpose.

...anyway, thought I'd ask.

When I'm playing either Linux or Plan9 on my Raspi, I can use it without having to sit in front of it. I kind of miss that when I'm having fun with RISCOS.

Some time before the last ice age I had VNC working on a RiscPC. If I remember correctly, it was almost unusable, but things have moved on since then

Igor from Flypig.co.uk is a simple telnet server for RiscOS. It is 32 bit compliant and works well on the Raspberry PI.

It is the second part of your question which is the tricky bit. Igor gives you access to the command line just as if you were using a Task Window and that is a fairly tedious way of editing a Basic program.

Very cool. Thanks a lot for the tip. If I can break away from the family Christmas lunch for an hour, I'm going to give that a try. :D
