Ethernet adapter with RISC OS

Mon Apr 01, 2019 10:25 am

Hi all,

Has anyone had experience getting a Micro USB to ethernet adapter working with a Pi Zero or Model A? I recently purchased this adapter from Pimoroni:

https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/thre ... 2477883847

It works great with Raspbian but I'm not having any luck getting the adapter to be recognised in Risc OS. The device doesn't seem to be recognised under Network -> Internet Configuration -> Interfaces.

If anyone has any tips to get this working I'd be very grateful ! :)

I think you have answered you own question - there doesn't appear to be a driver for the device in RISCOS.

Thanks for the pointers, I'll try the Risc OS Open forum.

I realise that this thread's a couple of months old, but for completeness' sake the EtherUSB readme lists the supported chipsets.

If the Model A is the single core one, Risc OS is and USB is Master-Slave,
requiring computation on the rPi Master's part. This overhead is hidden in Multi
Core OS in a kernel thread / process along with the IRQ Interrupts overhead.

Some were thinking that for smooth USB support Risc OS would have to
have a special 2nd core RT service task plus timer / watch-dog / polling

Built in Ethernet on my 3B+ works, built-in wireless not yet, is on USB.
Got IP addr, !Onmi saw a Lan Manager client (linus SAMBA / cifs / smb
but not Win7?), NetSurf, Packman other NutPi apps or terminal?

Maybe Terminal (BASIC?) could be a starting point for Pterm, Plato
512x512 graphic term, might have seen Net / Serial access in !charm

AUN ? over IP or Ethernet? For a classroom server? If a USB Hard
Disc attatches, Would a Pi 3 or 4 (USB3 / C) be a good AUN server.
