Running RISC OS with a Composite Monitor.

Sat Mar 14, 2015 12:11 am

I had my last HDMI cable give up so I decided to go to using composite video in RISC OS. The RPi is my primary computer, and RISC OS my primary operating system.

Here is a quick HowTo on seting up RISC OS for use with composit, if you only have composit (no HDMI).

STEP:
1: Hook up a composite monitor, and audio.
2: Boot into RISC OS (likely running at 1920 x 1080).
3: Press [F12].
4: Pressing enter after each line type:

Code: Select all

WimpMode X720 Y480 C16M
Configure Mode 28
5: Press enter one more time to get back to the desktop.
6: Open Configure, then Open "Screen" in configure.
7: Select Generic for the monitor type, and set the resolution to 720 x 480, and colors to 16 million.
8: Click on the 'Set' button.
9: Restart.

The above assumes that you are using a NTSC system. If you are using a PAL system, suplement the following for the same numbered steps above:
STEP:
4: Pressing enter after each line type:

Code: Select all

WimpMode X720 Y576 C16M
Configure Mode 28
...
7: Select Generic for the monitor type, and set the resolution to 720 x 576, and colors to 16 million.

In step 4 the WimpMode line temporarily sets the desktop screen mode to the standard composite screen mode, so you can see what you are doing. Also in step 4 the Configure Mode line sets the screen mode used for booting (before the desktop is started) and the mode used if you exit the desktop.

Steps 7 and 8 set and save the standard composite screen mode.
26-Bit R15 to 32-bit. 16-bit addressing to 24-bit. ARM and 65xx two CPU's that continue on, and are better than ever. Assembly Language forever :) .

There seems to have been a double posting on the submission of this thread. I had thought that problem had been corrected back in 2013, I guess not.

I had never experienced or seen this problem until today. Must be you.
