Boot stops at smsc95xx without error

I followed this guide: http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Raspberry_P ... tall_Guide to install Gentoo to my raspberry and, while booting, it just stops in this line:

I tried from a Tt PSU so I don't think it's a power issue, and it booted just fine with raspbian (even with a Samsung Galaxy charger).
I also waited for more than 5 minutes, but it didn't go past that line.

Seems like it's failing to load this smsc95xx thing. Any Idea how I could fix it? Thank you.

Have you tried it with smsc95xx.turbo_mode=N in /boot/cmdline.txt

Yeah. I've tried vm.min_free_kbytes = 4096 in /etc/sysctl.conf too.

I've now tried using the other kernel (the one from Raspbian 2012-12-16, which worked for me) and got the same problem, so I don't think it's the kernel.

sounds like a defective LAN9512 (ethernet+hub) chip, that hangs the driver.

I am having the same problem. I am using the kernel version 3.12.28. I followed the instruction from http://elinux.org/Raspberry_Pi_Kernel_Compilation. When i boot the pi with new kernel that I have compiled i am getting the same logs and hangs. With the same setup I have booted the pi using the wheezy image from the site and it works properly. This confirms this is not an issue of faulty chip or power-supply. Did any one managed to solve this issue?? :?: Please help..

That's not the problem: it worked, the Ethernet device registered just fine

But it was already trying to run 'init' off the boot device, and nothing happened; so it found init (which would normally be the path /etc/init or /sbin/init maybe these days on the root / device), but nothing happened. (Look at the source code, I mean, it's terrible, but by that stage it's pretty clear what it's doing ;-)

I find it weird that the kernel reports itself as a Linaro kernel; mine says it is a Gentoo kernel, maybe that's because I built it on Gentoo, I'm not sure. Make sure you are using the one off github; the Gentoo raspberry pi kernel is way out of date it looks like whoever submitted it has moved on to something else. I recommend 3.18, that may seem brave but everything I've tried prior to that has serious issues with paging (not that this is anything to do with the problem here.)

My best guess is that is whatever is on mmcblk0p3 in or around /sbin/init is broken, somehow. Are you sure you used the right (armv6j -hardfp) stage3 to initialize the rootfs?
