QT issues

Hi Sakaki, I keep bumping into errors like this when compiling from source.
http://wiki.flightgear.org/TerraGear_GUI
This is not the only time I have run into this.
I think FreeCAD and others give the same or a similar error.

Is there some trick used to make ebuilds compared to cmake.
cmake has been very quick in Buster.

Somethings now work on Buster but are a pain in Gentoo64.
However Buster ones are not A72 optimised only armhf.

Code: Select all

CMake Error at /usr/share/cmake/Modules/FindQt4.cmake:1324 (message):
Found unsuitable Qt version "5.12.4" from /usr/bin/qmake, this code
  requires Qt 4.x
Call Stack (most recent call first):
  CMakeLists.txt:5 (FIND_PACKAGE)

-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!
See also "/home/demouser/terrageargui/build/CMakeFiles/CMakeOutput.log".

Qt4 is quite different from the standard Qt5 but it is still installable in Buster I think.

PS. Who is Sakaki ?

Gavinmc42,

Unfortunately, Qt4 was last-rited and removed in Gentoo last year (https://bugs.gentoo.org/631788).

However, the Qt ensemble is still slotted, so if you can install an overlay (user ebuild repository) that has the old Qt4 ebuilds in there, you ought to be able to install it in parallel with your existing Qt5 libs.

The bug report above mentions the kde-sunset overlay, which seems to have e.g. a qtcore:4 ebuild etc, so you could try installing that.

hth, sakaki

Or I can wait for all the PY3/QT5 etc issues to get sorted by the developers of those apps
I feel no need to go backwards and someine smarter will figure it out eventually.

Anyway found a Gentoo guy interested in 3D CAD stuff, will try some of these.
https://github.com/waebbl/waebbl-gentoo ... er/TODO.md

With Pi4's more Linux apps do just run, just a matter of going through the big list.
I probably won't run out of things to try.

That was certainly the reasoning behind last-riting it (although there's still a fair amount of Qt4 stuff floating around out there).

Best, sakaki

PS I'd be interested in any feedback / bugs / issues on the newly released raspbian-nspawn-64 ("dual Debian" as I think you were calling it before ^-^): v1.3.0 now supports the Pi4, official 64-bit kernel, Buster host OS etc. Many thx, S.

Dual 32/64Bit Buster? Good point, I do need to test that more.
Time to build that mini bramble cluster.

Debian builds are easier even if they are not up to date as much as Gentoo.
Two different OS's might give clues to why one is better/fix the other.
