arm_control=0x200 rainbow screen - still needed?

Fri Sep 23, 2016 10:54 am

Hey everybody,

- I just bought a Raspberry Pi 3 and installed the Gentoo arm64 Experimental Stage 3 Build.
- Using the latest (Sept-22) firmware from the github Repo
- Compiled the latest kernel from the 4.8.y Branch of the mainline Raspberry Pi kernel, with default bcmrpi3_defconfig and Crossdev with aarch64-unknown-linux-gnu toolchain

The systems boots up very well with an empty config.txt. Uname and some other checks indicate, that the system is running in 64-bit mode ... Howerver, putting arm_control=0x200 in config.txt (as written in all manuals, that this is the official way to switch to 64-bit mode) get my Raspberry Pi stuck at the lovely Rainbow Screen.

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem / Or is arm_control not needed anymore? Thanks in advance.
