Gentoo distro and other

Wed Feb 10, 2016 2:42 pm

Comparing the work of Raspberry Pi2 with different operating systems I came to the conclusion that Gentoo - the best of them.
I compared:
- official Raspbian
- Ubuntu Mate
- Arch
- Gentoo
Gentoo shows the lowest power consumption (current on the power supply), low memory usage, best performance. This consumer properties. Plus the known advantages inherent in this distro as compared to other. Only one drawback - a long time to install and configure.

This would be useful information if there was a little bit more of it. Screenshots? charts? Description of the testing environment? How did you quantify performance?

This is my subjective observation and impressions (except for precise measurement of current consumption).
Unfortunately, I have not enough time to carry out the work which you are writing.

I have cooked Gentoo for Raspberry Pi 2 - and it does go slightly faster.

First the base system and tool chain is compiled for ARMv7 not ARMv6
Additionally, it is compiled for the newer floating point unit No. 4

The hardware acceleration for multimedia graphics, audio called NEON is compiled in, again giving a faster Raspberry

In plain english it goes roughly about 10% faster if I was forced to give a figure.
