File system size after using Gparted

Hello,

On the back of a fresh Arch install I've used Gparted on a live CD image in Virtual Box to resize the partition /dev/sda2 to fill up the 4gb SD card.

Before the process, the used size was 1.75GB but after using Gparted the used size is 2.4gb.
I assumed, perhaps naively, that the used size would remain the same and just the unused portion would grow from the unallocated portion.

Is there a step I should perform next to the file system or is it expected that the used size would grow?

A bit confused.

Same observation here with one of my cards, but only once in my countless trials to resize them.

Found out that the best results may yielded, if only one step at a time is done in gparted:

Delete a partition. Apply. CLose gparted. Eject card. Reinsert card.

Resize neighbour partition. Apply. Close gparted. Eject card. Reinsert card. etc.

Hello,

Given theres only a fat32, and one ext4 partition and the unallocated space after setting up the SD then there isnt a partition I can delete. If i delete the ext4 and create a new usung the 3 or so gig of space i'd end up with the large partition i want but no os on it any more? Ive tested the suggestion on another card and the result was a large but empty partition.

Unless im being a bit thick, which i never rule out, im not sure this suggestion is right.

Any other thoughts?

What I noticed with Gparted is that you need to do one step at a time(I mean Apply) and unmount ext4 before next operation because Gparted mount it automatically even though I disabled automount in my Ububntu 12. After resizing ext4 I found that partition size increased but free space left with nearly the same size. I just right-click on ext4 and did Check. After that command all fine. By the way, Resize command executes two commands in a row, Resize itself and then checks if partition mounted. So after resizing even though I had partitions unmounted I got error that ext4 mounted.
And in order to unmount I used terminal:
umount /media/USB1 /media/USB2 or whatever USB is on your PC because if I unmount in Gparted one partition, another partition mounted automatically. May be it is just me, dummy linux user...

Can anyone help me understand what happening with my drive space? i see rootfs and /dev/root reporting equal space used is that correct are they reporting the same partition?
The gparted screenshot claims almost 3gb from 3.65gb is used and df only shows 1.1 from 1.8gb so where has the rest of my space gone?

Very confused by the whole thing now so if anyone can offer some explanation i'd be grateful.

sheriff076, as I mentioned above, right click on mouse on ext4 and do Check. It will fix difference.
But I have a bit different picture on Gparted with unallocated 1Mb between FAT and ext4, and also linux-swap partition around 191Mb

I did try the magazine way but I can't resize the ext4 partition due to a "mount" problem. On my screen there's a "mount"column between "filesystem" and "size". For the fat32 partition is says "/boot", for the ext4 partion is says "/" Anyone??
