installed archlinux-hf-2013-02-11. How to start GUI Desktop?

I am very new to arch linux. I just flashed archlinux-hf-2013-02-11. When booted I am at a command promt. Logged in with root and root.

Now how do i get in to GUI? What is the command?

First, update with

Code: Select all

pacman -Syu
To install say lxde and a browser (hit enter at any options)

Code: Select all

pacman -S xf86-video-fbdev lxde xorg-xinit
and to start

Code: Select all

xinit /usr/bin/lxsession

What all the above means is that ArchLinux does not come with a GUI, you have to install it! Pepedog and Cloudcentric have both provided instructions for how to do that.

Then if there are more GUI applications you want to run on your Pi, you get to pick what you want!

There is a cool wiki page describing a good number of basic applications we have available in ArchLinux, most will be available for the Pi: ... plications

I found out about some interesting stuff on that page!
