python memcache broken ??

Thu Feb 07, 2013 1:38 pm

I have just switched to archlinux and up until now, everything is really great and 'I'm loving it'.

Problem is with memcache and python, it works great under raspian but under arch nothing appears to work, no error messages, but no data.

I have stripped out the rest of the code, this is the basics which works under raspian and does not appear to work on arch, both sessions are on the same machine.

Any chance someone can verify this for me ??

Session 1:

Code: Select all

import memcache
shared = memcache.Client(['127.0.0.1:11211'], debug=0)
tally=100
shared.set('tally',tally)
Session 2:

Code: Select all

import memcache
shared = memcache.Client(['127.0.0.1:11211'], debug=0)
tally = shared.get('tally')
print tally
> /dev/null 2>&1

No idea, but you know which python you want? Default is python3, by the symlink /usr/bin/python
Shebangs are recommended to take out confusion.
I worked some python tuts from that edu thing released about a month ago, had to make adjustments.
Also check locale set in /etc/locale.gen and run locale-gen

Then again arch has been hit by upstream glibc problems, to do with ld cache

Ok, this is resolved, the memcached daemon was not running.

I only moved to arch 2 days ago from ubuntu/debian/raspian and are still getting used to things, I assumed that when I installed memcached using pacman, that the services would be installed and started automagically, but they weren't.

Return to “Arch”
