unreliable audio output on analog and HDMI either

Sun Aug 19, 2012 10:04 am

Hi everybdy,
I hav been fighting a sort of ordeal with my RPi audio output for a few days and still I could,nt find a solution.

It seems just a few kind of audio files can be played nicely, i.e. wav 16 bit 48000 as those in the alsa testing lot, whilst other wav files such as mono 8khz or 22050 or 11500 do not producd any sound or distorted unintelligible ssound either. I tried those by aplay and audacious and clementine with the same results.

I tried also a mp3 file (mp123 plugin installed) but got no sound tried also a ogg-vorbis file with clementine and audacious and got intermittent output (burst of sounds mixed with noise).

Any dea on this matter? My config has got 32Mb for SDU / 224Mb for main memory.

Thanks, bye
Vincenzo

Low sample rate files hanging has been fixed in recent firmware. Try updating:

I tried to update my box by using rpi-update but the process unfortunately told me at the end:
"could not open directory /usr/lib/modules/3.2.27+" and the update did not complete.

I guess 3.2.27 is the Linux Kernel release which is not the one currently running which actually is
"Linux alarmpi 3.1.9-33-ARCH+ on Fri Jul 27 02.41.52 UTC 2012 arm6l GNU/Linux".

After this error messsage I tried to find the supposedly newly released Linux Kernel but could not find it so at the moment I am at a stop...

Can you help please. Thanks bye
Vincenzo

Did you launch rpi-update as root?

Possibly an issue with Arch. Anyone else using Arch ran rpi-update and got the 3.2.27 kernel correctly?

I just ran pacman -Suy and got my box updated in all its system sw including Linux Kernel which now is 3.1.9-34 (built date Aug 18th 2012) but even so rpi-update fails since it apparently expects the LK to be 3.2.27...

Yes indeed, all my update attempts (either pacman and rpi-update) have been made as super user.

After restarted the box with the new 3.1.9-34 kernel and latest updates, I noticed a slight improvement since all the wav files now can play safely. The interrupted / burst of sound mixed with noise still remains on ogg-vorbis files and radio streams received via clementine or audacious applications.

Again.. with reference to Clementine I got most radio stations working nicely after installed gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins that was not there. Still the problems on ogg-vorbis files are there..

Return to “Arch”
