LifeCam VX-800 on Puppy 4

I have a MS Lifecam VX-800 connected via a powered hub (which works with everything else and Raspbian recognizes the camera ok but motion is not yet configured properly)

I've installed Camorama via the PPM, but running it gets can't connect to "Dev/Video0" which means I'm missing a driver. (I think!)

I've been through the Murga-linux "how-to" but the pages referenced seem to be missing - code 404.

I'd like to find Camwizard but PPM doesn't find it.

At this point my head hurts!!

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

@MadHorseman:
When searching for Puppy Linux answers I have found this website to be most useful:
well minded puppy.com Using that site I found a number of entries regarding webcam usage. Hope this is helpful. :)

Thanks! Some progress following stuff on that website.

I now have GUVCViewer installed plus dependencies (I think) via PPM and recognising the camera (and the green light on the camera comes on!!). However, the preview image is black/blank whether Image or Video is selected.

Camera connected via a powered USB hub.

I've rebooted the Pi to see what that does - same.

Any further ideas?

TIA.

@MadHorseman
Have you tried a lower resolution?

I've just installed Guvcview and it works with my noname camera, but only with 352x288 or lower. Also the effective frame rate is not really amazing (between 1 and 5 fps).

Hi Rhadon,

Thanks!

I'll give that a whirl this p.m. and see what happens.

Hi Rhadon,

Thanks - sprung into life, and as you've been so kind I won't publish the ugly mugshot I got!
