Fri Jun 19, 2020 1:24 pm

Is it possible to install CENTOS 8 on RASPBERRY PIE 4. If so can you suggest a site I can use to guide me through installing the software on your product.

This forum thread appears to contain an answer to a similar question regarding Centos7 - viewtopic.php?f=56&t=249048 Maybe the same links will guide you to an answer for a later version?

The thread also contains a link to a support forum for that third-party Operating System.

There are 2 versions of CentOS that is usable on ARM computers. You can install either the AARCH64 or the ARMHFP version of CentOS 7 version 1908. AARCH64 is the same as ARM64, which is the 64 bit version of a Linux operating system for ARM computers. The ARMHF version of CentOS is intended for Raspberry PI computer models 2 - 3. Raspberry PI computers 2 - 3 use a ARMv7 computer, the Raspberry Pi 4 uses a ARMv8 computer. The AARCH64 version of CentOS is downloaded as a .ISO file. I don't know if you can flash the .ISO image to a USB drive using Raspberry PI Imager tool.

There are several versions of CentOS 7 that you can install on the Raspberry Pi 2/3 computer. I don't which version of CentOS you should use on the Raspberry Pi computer. If you know about CentOS, your understanding of CentOS would be better than what I know about CentOS. I don't know anything about CentOS. Here is a link to the CentOS wiki website that shows you how to install the CentOS image on a Raspberry Pi 3 computer:

Pi3 and Pi2 v1.2 or later are also aarch64-capable. And the Pi4's CPUs are quite happy running aarch32 code.

Maybe I am not reading correctly but to me it seems this question was not answered.
Is there no CentOS 8 image for the RPi 4?
I've also posted this same question on the CentOS forum so awaiting the answer there also.

The following is my operations to install a vanilla CentOS 8.2 aarch64 to raspberry pi 4b.

1.Download uefi firmware
https://github.com/pftf/RPi4/releases/d ... _v1.18.zip
2.Create an SD card in `MBR` mode with a single partition of type `0x0c` (`FAT32 LBA`) or `0x0e` (`FAT16 LBA`). Then format this partition to `FAT`.
3.Extract all the files from the archive onto the partition you created above.
4.Insert the SD card.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.Prepare two usb drives.
6.Burn the vanilla CentOS 8.2 aarch64 image to a USB drive1.
7.Plug both USB drives and power up your Raspberry Pi.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
8.Now you will see the install procedure as normal. Please select the USB drive2 as the destiny drive.

There are two weaks in this situation:
1.Netcard can not be used .
2.SDcard can not be used (You must install CentOS to a USB drive).

You could insert a usb gigabit ethernet. CentOS 8.2 will recognize this network card automatically.

Here is a step by step instruction for installing centos 8 on Raspberry Pi 4. Basically you just need to burn the centos 8 aarch image to the SD card and it should work out of the box.
