TL-WN821 USB WiFi as AP

Sat Jun 30, 2012 12:19 am

Not sure if I should put this here or in the hardware section..

Has anyone had success running the TP-Link TL-WN821 USB wifi adapter in access point mode?

My Pi won't even fully boot (wheezy) with it plugged in. If I unplug it, it finishes booting. If I plug it back in, and do anything but an LS, it hangs until I pull it out again.

I followed the instructions here as best I could, but no dice.

My goal is to be able to have laptops as well as mobile devices connect directly to the Pi over wifi (and serve up web pages) so ethernet is not an option (nor is an external ethernet AP, unless it was very small, low cost and power friendly). I know some mobile devices will do adhoc, but I want AP mode so I can have the widest range of compatibility.
