iptables fails to initialize

Tue Nov 12, 2013 3:18 pm

Code: Select all

she% iptables -L
FATAL: Module ip_tables not found.
iptables v1.4.14: can't initialize iptables table `filter': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.
she%

Code: Select all

she% uname -r
3.1.9+
she% uname -a
Linux rp-server 3.1.9+ #90 Wed Apr 18 18:23:05 BST 2012 armv6l GNU/Linux

Thanks for a tip.

Is there a firewasll not based on iptables? Or a way to protect one interface from another interface ?

That's very old and running a non-standard kernel/distribution.

Have you thought of migrating to something like Raspbian, ArchLinux or Pidora. They all have iptables support built as kernel modules. iptables -L works on my Raspbian system.

I wouldn't call that very old.
I also can't see the point in a debian subforum if the advice is to use another distribution.

I could use raspbian, but am asking if i am able to solve the problem with the actual debian installation. To move all stuff installed there to the new installation is more than just a bit of work.

I'd call that ancient history because it's more than three months old (and software support is my day job). And https://wiki.debian.org/RaspberryPi recommends Raspbian.

Sorry didn't spot it was in the Debian subforum due to the way I read the stuff on here.

Doing software support for a living is no argument.
For you 3 months might be ancient, for Debian it isn't.
It might be an idea to reconsider that opinion.

I for one don't care much for newer software. And i am pretty sure that support for iptables is not a question of being the latest and greatest.
