Startx giving a blank screen

Fri Jul 06, 2012 5:49 pm

Earlier today i was on my pi getting games from the MagPi magazine.
First i installed liquid war, it didn't work (something to do with graphics and i wasn't in the mood to sort it)
I did sudo apt-get remove liquidwar to get rid of it.
I tried a different game called beneath-a-steel-sky and it ran out of memory.
So I deleted it (using the same thing as I did with liquid war) and for some odd reason it said ran out of memory.
So I thought I may as well uninstall IridiumRising (which was on it) so I do startx and it comes up with a navy screen. it didnt load anything so i pulled the power cable out and tried again. same thing. so i put the back up files on and it did the same thing.
:?

Thanks in advance

I think I had something similar, I had started startx with sudo, it then overwrote 1 or 2 files in my home directory with root privileges, I think the file/s started with an x???????? I changed the privileges back to pi and then startx started ok.

I had this problem w/ a new install of Wheezy on a 2GB SD card. I had done apt-get update, upgrade, and then rpi-update (w/ the stuff to make it work.) After I got done I could do sudo startx, but startx stopped at a black screen like you're talking about. I resized my partition to fill the 8 GB card and the problem went away.

Thanks for this post . Had the same problem. Couldn't work out what I had done wrong. One SD card just stopped running the GUI. Did

cd /usr/bin
sudo ./raspi-config

Reran expand partition and all was well.
